connection- a specific vehicle, airplane, ship, etc., boarded in making connections,ie: a bus connection, the act or state of connecting
to speak of a connection as a vehicle or thing you attatch to in order to move intrigues me for this project. it is a meaning of the word used constantly yet not the first one thought of when asked its meaning. to think of the transitional space in this way may be a good vantage point. as if the transitional space is your connection, and it takes you to your destinations.
static- fixed or stationary, little or no change
dynamic- characterized by continuous change, activity, or progress

Not sure if you are looking at things lke the subway, like the case study you found, but id say check out Philly's subway system for transitional spaces. Especially its hundreds of different connections that spur out into a very complex system of public transportation... Blue line, Orange line, Broad-Ridge spur (which connects from girard to ridge, stopping in chinatown and at 8th & Market, eventually connecting to PATCO, the blue line, etc) also check out regional rail system and its stops that connect to the bus systems, etc. Maybe all this is just a case study or maybe you thought of it already. hope it helps in some way though.
philly's underground city... pretty much hidden, secretive, fearsome, graphic, daring, vivid, and haunting. it has a whole life(less) to it. it becomes the back alley to all buildings.
something worth looking at since philly does run on an interesting schedule.
