after meeting with my advisors...

- the map of my journeys needs to be temporal, show the experience not jsut a connection

-begin to bring these diagrams into the city, become spatial, use maps

-alley way is an interesting start for investigation. study the alleys of the city. look at who uses them and where and how. people smoke in alleys. study the aggregate in the alley as a tell tale of waht goes on there. sub-culture exists in alley ways. hidden bars, or people. a shadyness to it. the secrets of the alley ways. study the dialog of the alley versus the city grid. is it a secondary grid. how do they work together or seperate, and the uses of each.

-move through the alleys and tell the narratve of them
-travel only in alleys
-try moravian, panana, ransid as interesting philadelphia alley ways to study.

Check out canal street in northern liberties... its right below front and girard. It makes a lot of sudden turns through the former industrial setting, cobblestones, old train tracks, abandoned factories, etc. its just east of front street where the el passes above and where i-95 cuts through the city and just west of Deleware ave. very interesting highly contrasting site and not as intimidating and life-threatening as some other areas might be. The other place i was telling you about earlier today is N. Park Ave. It's just south of fairmount (off of Melon st.) between ridge and 13th. From what i remember, its cobblestone as well and has a good amoutn of debris in it, including large safes, etc. and there are some brick structures that are great spots for homeless guys. check it out but don't linger too long there. also, check out some of the sites tim is looking at, they sound to be what you are going for. theres another one just south of spring garden off of deleware ave where there are a bunch of 'gentleman's' clubs in back alley types of settings. intriguing as well (front & noble streets). hope these help
